ROCKS Celebration
We had our final ROCKS celebration yesterday. We enjoyed celebrating all of our students ROCKstar behavior throughout the year. We had a variety of stations set up for students to rotate through including bubbles, sidewalk chalk, kickball, music and dancing, hula hoops, and parachute games to name a few of the activities. We have had an awesome year to celebrate! Picnic to Jaycee Park and Service Learning As part of our annual tradition on our last day of school, all grade levels K-3 went to a picnic lunch at Jaycee Park. Our 4th graders started a new tradition by going to Feed My Starving Children to pack meals for malnourished children around the world. It was a great way to spend our last day of school together! Summer Garden Club-More Volunteers Needed! During the summer months when our staff and students are not here, we need some help to maintain our garden areas. Each week we would like a family to donate 1-2 hours to help with weeding and watering our 3 garden areas; the walkway to the school, our front butterfly garden, and our back rain garden. If you are able, please sign-up for a week. The day and time during that week is flexible and can be catered to your schedule. We appreciate all of your help in keeping our gardens beautiful during these summer months. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Larson at [email protected]. Thank you for your time and support! Here is the link to the sign-up: Garden Club Sign-Up Summer Slide Prevention Summer break is around the corner! That means trips to the beach, family vacations, and sleeping in. I am hoping that it will also include some critical thinking and reading. Studies have shown that if activities that promote critical thinking and reading skills are not done over the summer up to 2 months of reading performance can be sacrificed. This is why it is vital for parents to create opportunities during the summer months for their children to maintain their learned skills and prevent the “summer slide”. Here is a link from the MN Department of Education on some tips for parents to prevent this “summer slide”: MDE Summer Learning Opportunities Classroom Placement Notification In years past, postcards have been sent the first week of August stating students’ classroom teachers for the upcoming school year. For the 2017-18 school year, TCU schools have decided to notify families of their child’s classroom teacher with our back to school letters that are sent mid-August and we will not be sending out the postcards. This will give us time to ensure we have all of our summer registrations processed, students placed, and the appropriate staffing allocated. Thank you for your understanding! Thank you! As many of you know, I will not be returning to TCU Lonsdale next year but have taken a position in my hometown of Waconia. I wanted to pass along a heartfelt “thank you” to the parents and students that make our school a priority in this community. This truly has been a memorable, valuable experience at TCU Lonsdale that has helped shape me as an educational leader. Thank you! ~Ms. Klitzke, Principal

Here is the link to the sign-up: Garden Club Sign-Up Baby Animal Day The Tri-City United High School FFA group hosted a very educational and exciting event called Baby Animal Day on Thursday, May 12th. All TCU K-4 students were invited to attend. Students from Lonsdale were bussed to TCU Montgomery K-8. Once at the school, they were able to see the new baby farm animals. They learned about the animals from the high school students and were able to pet and even hold some of the smaller animals. There even was a hay ride for the students. This is an annual extraordinary, memorable opportunity for the students! Thank you to the FFA! 2017-18 Bus Registration Even though we are just concluding the 2016-17 school year, it is already time to be planning for 2017-2018 and that includes completing the necessary Bus Registration form. This form was sent home with your child last week. Please return the form by Monday, May 22nd. In order for our bus routes to be the most efficient, we need to know if your child(ren) will be riding. You can also get an additional form on our TCU website www.tcu2905.us and click on District Transportation and then Bus Registration Form or contact Heather in our office. Arbor Day Celebration We had great weather for our Arbor Day celebration! The day started off with an all-school assembly that discussed the purpose of Arbor Day and Mayor Rud shared how the City of Lonsdale takes pride in being a “Tree City USA”. Each grade level, K through 4, had the opportunity to plant their own tree with the help of Teresa Demars, with Rice Soil and Water Conservation District (RSWCD). The students also were able to bring home their own seedling donated by the Forestry division of the DNR. A big THANK YOU goes out to Mayor Rud, Ben Baker, The Lonsdale Lions, the DNR, RSWCD, and many other city representatives and parent volunteers. Our very own, Mr. Larson, has provided leadership for our staff on providing more environmental education for our Lonsdale Elementary students. There are future plans to partner with community organizations for a prairie restoration project to begin this spring. What an exciting time to be part of TCU Lonsdale Elementary! Happy St. Patrick’s Day
We had a fantastic time celebrating St. Patrick’s day today! There were many activities happening throughout our school. Second graders used their design and problem solving skills in making leprechaun traps. They weren’t very successful as many classrooms were visited by these mischievous “leprechauns” causing quite disarray throughout our school. Hopefully the second graders will have better luck next year. Other grade levels invistigated rainbow colors in a science experiment, created graphs with Lucky Charms, and searched for gold. River Bend Nature Center Grades 1, 3, and 4 had great weather for exploring our outdoor learning centers with River Bend Nature Center naturalists this last week. They explored various topics such as homes and habitats that animals create, the water cycle, and plant and animal adaptations. They also discussed how our crazy Minnesota seasons and environment play a part in it all. Some of the students were brave enough to touch some of the animals they brought with them!
